Ruby Ellen (Amos) Merrell, 93
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at First Baptist Church, Durant, for Ruby Ellen (Amos) Merrell, 93, Durant, who died Wednesday, May 2, 2007, at Bellevue Nursing Home, Oklahoma City. Rev. James Robinson will officiate.
She was born Tuesday, July 8, 1913, in Golden to John William Amos and Lillie Bell (Wingfield). He married Charley M. Merrell June 4, 1946, in Durant. She graduated from Hugo High School in 1932 and OU nursing school in 1941. She lived in Durant for 50 years and was a public health nurse for 21 years. Ruby was a past president of the Rose Garden Club of Durant. She was also a member of the Pink Ladies at the hospital. Ruby was a longtime member of First Baptist Church in Durant where she worked for many years in the newborn Sunday School.
She was preceded in death by her husband on March 17, 1989, parents, three brothers, four sisters, five nephews, three nieces and many cousins.
She is survived by daughters Lois Ada Linkous and husband Jim, Placentia, Calif., and Ellen Louise Reagan and husband Jay, Oklahoma City; grandsons Brent Alan Linkous and wife Shannon and Russell Charles Linkous and wife Kristin, all of California, and Joel Robert Reagan and wife Jennifer, Overland Park, Kan.; nieces Zula Bell Kannarr, Sun City, Ariz., Virginia Perkey, Huntsville, Ala., Betty Wilhoite, Coweta; nephews John Oliver Amos, Pearland, Texas, Jim Allen Amos, McAlester; and great-grandchildren Keyleigh Linkous and Jordan Linkous, both of California.
Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Hugo, with First Baptist Church members Bill Brown, J.C. Curtis, Ed Armor, Alfred Wheeler, Jack Trent and Bart Rustin serving as pallbearers.
