Sun, Royals Shine Bright At The K

There is light at the end of the tunnel for Royals fans like me. I just don't know how far away the light is. A sellout crowd of 41,257 saw the Royals knock out Curt Schilling and the Boston Red Sox, 7-1 on opening day at The K. $55 million man Gil Meche (1-0) looked good, pitching 7 1/3 innings for Kansas City, allowing only one run in the first inning. The real test for Meche is consistency, something he lacked in Seattle. If Meche consistently performs like he did Monday, he will be well worth the investment.

How many times did you hear Royals fans clamor for anyone I mean, anyone to take Angel Berroa's place in the lineup. Then, the Royals traded for Tony Pena, Jr. from the Braves. The chorus began to doubt Royals GM Dayton Moore again.
'Well, anyone but him,' they cried. 'Is Dayton nuts? He can't hit.'
Pena silenced the critics, for one game at least, by hitting two triples and making a great play at shortstop.
Dayton Moore will make some mistakes, but he knows his stuff. If anyone can turn this around, he can.

It all depends on where you sit, but the fan really stunk on this Opening Day. We had a lot more drunks, because many think Opening Day is more about getting off work early to drink than anything else.
The crowd noise was really good, but I saw a lot disinterested "fans" They're not really Royals fans, they're just along for the ride.
The sad thing is it could be one heck of a ride.

The song over the Kauffman Stadium speakers when first baseman Ryan Shealy came to the plate -- "Ooh Ahh" by GRITS. What a cool song! Then the Royals played "Be My Escape" by Relient K between innings.
